The Maskwacis Cree Chiefs reaffirm that Nehiyawewin is the Official Language of Maskwacis on June 21, 2016. They Signed a Nehiyawewin Declaration to encourage the Four Nations which comprise of Samson Cree, Ermineskin Cree, Montana First Nation, and Louis Bull Tribe, to to embrace our Language, to speak our language and to teach our youth our language.
“Today we reclaim the most important part of us as Indigenous People’s, as Cree Peoples – Our Cree Language”. At establishment in 1974 the Maskwacis Cultural College was mandated to preserve the culture, history and Language of the Plains Cree People. They did that today as the Chiefs signed the Declaration with their English Name, another copy with their Cree Name, also they signed their name in Syllabics’, just as our ancestors did.
