On December 4th, 2015 we hosted our fourth year annual charity checkstop, each year the proceeds go to supporting the local four nations and Pigeon Lake communities’ food banks, toys drive and to collect donations from anyone who stops for the check stop. The planning committee representatives who are from the local area for the tri-services Maskwacis Ambulance, Ermineskin, Louis Bull and Samson Fire halls, justice workers and Maskwacis RCMP have been supporting and planning this fun event since 2011. We also take into consideration the prevention side of Drinking and Driving during the holidays, we do not want to see any of our nation members drive under the influence and thus have tragedy during this time. We have in years past and again this year have given our printed materials as a gift for their donations and candy canes. A huge amount of candy canes have been given out 2000 in total along with the promotional items bags. We are proud to have collect and distributed $ 9,200.00 with $ 1,800.00 being distributed to each respective nation. During the checkstop we have over 55 volunteers and also had 88 toy item and 188 food bank items donated. Samson Friendship Center provided a warm and tasty soup and bannock lunch for all the volunteers. A great and successful event for this 2015 year and with generous thanks to all the volunteers from the four nation’s community departments and agencies. Merry Christmas to all….. and enjoy your holidays.
