Different from standard bicycle races and tours, the Tour of Alberta has world class cyclists racing at high rates of speeds in 6 stages. The Tour of Alberta marks Canada’s first ever major international professional cycling stage race, and Alberta’s first foray into the growing global sport of cycling. This world-class event, which is free to the public, will start in Edmonton and finish six days later in Calgary.
This is a high profile, international cycling event expects a viewer audience of 50,000,000 (fifty million) worldwide.
The tour was adopted through the vision of Albertan Alex Stieda, the first North American to wear the yellow leader’s jersey at the Tour de France. The event will feature more than 15 of the world’s top cycling teams, some of which will have competed in the Tour de France in July. The race will feature athletes from more than 20 countries. The field will include world and national champions from various countries as well as top-ranked cyclists on the world circuit.
Join us here in Hobbema to cheer on the cyclists as they pass through Maskwacis Territory. They will be traveling Southbound on highway 2A on September 5th between 12:00pm and 1:00pm. All access points to highway 2A will be closed during this time.
