I’m Gloria Rogers-Buffalo the FNMI Maskwacis Wahkotowin liaison Graduation Coach at the Wetaskiwin Composite High School. This will be my second year in the Wetaskiwin Composite High School. Students are more familiar with attending the Cree Room on spares and breaks. The students will be learning how to make drums, from some hides that were given to me this fall. We will be planning our days around The Seven Teachings throughout the year, each month will be designated. September will be Respect; I have Elders and teachings around respect all this month. Students are encouraged to continue smudging every day (if this is what they practice), to help ground and focus them for the day.
There will be Cree language offered during lunch times. Students can bead, create shields, and play board games or vision board throughout the year. There will be as well special lunches with guests. We will go on field trips, some cultural or educational. I have a TA Mrs. Lalonde in the room to assist with courses; there are computers available to catch up with classes.
If you are interested in visiting the Cree Room or volunteering with cultural awareness please feel free to drop by. The coffee or tea is always on! (Bring Bannock). September 25 at 7pm is the “meet and greet” the parents! Letters of invitation will be mailed out. The children are our future, support them and tell them you Love them!
