There was a Repatriation Ceremony at the Riverside Cemetery for Maskwacis Veterans Joshua Daniel and Henry Larocque and the Canadian Army was present for the event. The MC for the event was Elmer Rattlesnake and the drum group was Mountain Cree. Chief Vernon Saddleback was present along with a few Samson Councilors. Samson Councilor Danny Buffalo helped organize the event along with Community Initiatives. Thank you to the work crew who helped plow the snow, shoveled and prepared the fire for the pipe ceremony before the event. At the end of the ceremony about 100 white swans flew over the ceremony.
Chief Vernon Saddleback had a few words to say to the people who were gathered in about minus 25 Celsius weather. I want to thank the Commanding Officer of the South Alberta Light Horse Lieutenant Colonel Shawn Thirlwell for making this ceremony happern properly. I want to thank the all the who showed up here this morning. I want to thank our Elders for coming out. I want to thank Victor and Leo Bruno. I want to thank Gordon Lee for stepping up and to lead the prayers for us. For the Larocque’s, Swampy’s and Bruno families it’s good your family members are being recognized by the military for their service. I want to thank all the 42 members who have served because they gave us the freedom we have today. Ekosi !
