The Reclaiming Our Knowledge conference took place between January 23-25, 2018, at the HBMC and there was a very good turnout this year. Keynote speakers included: Roy and Judy Louis, Georgina Lightning, Bruce Cutknife, Beverly Swampy, Pat Buffalo, Wendy Buffalo, Sheri-Lynn McGilvery, Koren Lightning-Earle and Darlene Auger. Rattle Making, Kevin Lewis with Kaniyasihk Culture Camp, Troy Okeymow with the Traditional Buffalo Hunt, Kacey Yellowbird with Health Promotion and Koren Lightning-
Earle with the Law Society of Alberta. Cecil Crier and Ida Bull did the invocation for the conference for the three days and the MC’s were Bryan Lightning and Donna Potts-Johnson. Samson Chief Vernon Saddleback welcomed everyone on the first day and Councilor Larron Northwest attended all three days. All of the Samson Councilors attended at various times and there were other Councilors from the other three nations as well. Evening entertainment included the Bighetty Cree Puppet Show and country singer Armond Duck Chief who hails from SikSika. The Iskwesis Dance group performed along with youth Hoop Dancers. The Senior Manager of the Nipisihkopahk Wellness and Social Development, Heather Buffalo, was one of the organizers of this event and her and her team deserve a lot of credit for such a good conference this year.
