Nearly 100 people attended the Maskwacis Education Schools Commission (MESC) Elders Workshop on February 28, 2018. The four Maskwacis Chiefs; Chief Vernon Saddleback (Samson), Chief Craig Makinaw (Ermineskin), Chief Leonard Standing On The Road (Montana), Chief Irvin Bull (Louis Bull) greeted the participants with opening remarks, followed by a presentation by Brian Wildcat – MESC Superintendent. A brief history of MESC was presented providing information on the formation and vision of the organization.
the Elders were engaged in discussions to provide insight and direction for Maskwacis Schools. An overarching theme was to ensure the inclusion of Cree Culture and Language in all Maskwacis Schools and the curriculum.
Maskwacis Education Schools Commission is comprised of the Maskwacis Cree First Nations; Samson Cree Nation, Ermineskin Cree Nation, Montana First Nation, and Louis Bull Tribe.
