Katherine Swampy

Biography

Katherine Swampy is a mother of 8 children. She is also a Band Councilor for the Samson Cree Nation, but she ran to become a Member of Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and also ran to become a Member of Parliament for Canada. Katherine stays active on provincial and Federal politics, and is active on provincial and federal committees. Katherine is on the Peace Hills Trust Board of Directors, Maskwacis Cultural College Board of Directors, Samson Education Trust Fund Board of Trustees, Chair of the Consultation committee, member of the Nipiy Committee, Community Capital Planning Committee, Women’s Advisory Board, University of Alberta Augustana Aboriginal Engagement Committee, NDP Rural Caucus Executive.  

Mrs. Swampy also dances and teaches young girls the Jingle Dress Dance and how to sew traditional regalia. Katherine also counsels suicidal youth in her community. Swampy has also been fighting for First Nations Rights since she was as young as eleven years old. 

Katherine holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in economics and a minor in political studies and is expected to Graduate her Masters of Public Policy Administration this fall.
